How Vintage Chronos Germany Inspects Every Watch

Before a watch is added to our collection, it undergoes a standardized nine-step inspection process conducted by certified specialists at our store in Cologne. Only after each step has been successfully completed do we approve the watch for sale.

1. 01

   Identification of Reference and Serial Number

   The reference and serial number are recorded, documented, and checked for plausibility. The serial number is matched to the production period and cross-checked against the manufacturer’s records.

2. 02

   Inspection of the Case, Movement, and Dial

   The case, movement, and dial are examined under magnification to verify their authenticity. Engravings, caliber designation, movement number, print quality, hands, and hour markers must correspond to the reference and year of manufacture.

   Comparison of Known Reference Characteristics

   All features are compared with the documented characteristics of the respective reference. These include correct components, period-appropriate details, and known variations from the respective year of production.

   Accuracy Test

   On the chronometer, rate accuracy, amplitude, and rate loss are measured in several positions. This ensures that the movement operates within the expected tolerances.

   Functional Test

   All functions are tested, from winding and hand positioning to the date mechanism, as well as model-specific complications such as the Chronograph, rotating bezel, and GMT function, along with the crown’s screw-down mechanism.

6. 06

   Inspection of the Scope of Delivery

   The box, paperwork, warranty cards, and other accessories are checked for authenticity and to ensure they belong to the watch. For FULLSETs, we verify that the serial number matches the paperwork.

7. 07

   Condition Photography

   The actual condition of the watch is photographed in high resolution and documented. The images in the shop show exactly the watch being offered, without any retouching of its Condition.

8. 08

   Dual-Review Approval

   Before the watch is approved for sale, a second specialist independently inspects the watch and reviews all inspection results. The watch is listed for sale only after both specialists have reached a consensus.

9. 09

   Documentation and Warranty Card

   The entire inspection process is documented. Each watch receives a written certificate of authenticity and a 24-month warranty from Vintage Chronos Germany.
