Care instructions for your vintage luxury watch

A vintage luxury watch is an expression of the traditional art of watchmaking, technical precision and historical substance. So that your watch functions reliably for many years and retains its unique character, we recommend careful and responsible handling.

Below you will find our binding care recommendations for historic models.

01

Dealing with water and moisture

Many vintage models - especially sporty classics such as the Seamaster line from Omega - were originally designed for use in water. Nevertheless, these are historical watches whose seals and case components may be subject to age-related changes.

A conscious approach to moisture is therefore recommended.

We recommend the following procedure:

  • Water contact only with confirmed tightness
  • Always screw down the crown completely (if present)
  • No actuation of the crown or pusher in the water
  • If you are unsure, please contact us in advance

For long-term safety, we recommend that you have the waterproofness checked once a year - especially if you wear them regularly or plan to use them in water.

If in doubt, it is better to ask once more. We are always happy to advise you on the specific suitability of your model for everyday use.

02

Cleaning - dry only

Only clean your watch dry and with due care.

  • Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth
  • Remove dust and skin residues regularly
  • Only clean leather straps dry and protect them from moisture
  • Do not use cleaning agents, polishes or chemical substances

In the event of heavy soiling, we recommend professional cleaning by a qualified specialist company.

03

Protection against shocks and vibrations

Vintage mechanical movements are precisely constructed and correspondingly sensitive.

Avoid:

  • Sports activities with high impact loads
  • Manual or physically intensive work
  • Hard impacts against solid surfaces

Even without visible external damage, strong vibrations can impair the function.

04

Temperature and magnetic fields

Vintage watches are designed for everyday use and naturally withstand normal temperature fluctuations. Even summer heat in the vehicle is generally not a problem.

Extreme conditions - such as severe overheating over long periods of time or sudden, very large temperature changes - should nevertheless be avoided, as they can have a long-term effect on seals, lubricants and gear behavior.

Magnetic fields (e.g. from loudspeakers, induction hobs or technical devices) can affect the accuracy. In the event of noticeable deviations, a simple demagnetization by a watchmaker is usually sufficient.

05

Correct fitting and adjustment

Mechanical watches should always be operated with care.

  • Wind hand-wound watches at the same time every day if possible
  • Turn the crown slowly and without applying force
  • If possible, do not set the Date and Time between 20:00 and 04:00
  • Ensure a straight fit when screwing on the crown

Improper operation can cause damage to the date circuit or the movement.

06

Service intervals

For mechanical vintage watches, we recommend an overhaul every 8 years or so, depending on the model and how often it is worn.

Professional maintenance includes, among other things

  • Disassembling and cleaning the movement
  • Replacement of wearing parts
  • Re-oiling and regulation
  • Checking all functions

Regular servicing contributes significantly to value retention and long-term functional reliability.

07

Storage

When you are not wearing your watch:

  • Store in a dry and dust-protected place
  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Use a padded watch box or safe
  • Do not operate vintage models permanently in a watch winder

As a specialist for high-quality vintage luxury watches, we are also available to advise you after your purchase. The responsible handling of historical timepieces is an integral part of our corporate philosophy.
